Karan Singh Vinayak, Chandigarh : The power tussle in the Punjab congress has invited national amusement. The whole issue started with the repeated attacks by Navjot Sidhu on its own government for non-fulfillment of poll promises. The growing discontent and dissatisfaction in Punjab made high command to act swiftly and strongly. The issues were presumed settled once when Harish Rawat balanced the power equation by extending the PPCC Chief post to Sidhu.
Shortly after that a cold war erupted between the Sidhu and Punjab CM, and again the public issues took a back seat. Sand mafia, Liquor mafia, transport mafia rules the roost. Land grabs by big sharks, drug menace, PPA’s continue to drain public faith, but new political events were taking place with each passing day. The unrelenting bashing and trading of charges snowballed into a big political tussle. Meanwhile, CM resigned from his post and power poles shifter towards Sidhu who attained the support of most of the legislatures. Now the resignation spree started with the Navjot Sidhu, after the formation of new cabinet has left everyone amazed.
This has added much drama to the already boiling political landscape. Nonetheless, the infighting of a national party has turned into a comedy show like the one of which once the Sidhu was also a part. The citizens are the loser who voted for the hope of better Punjab. The unemployed ETT teachers are protesting since years for jobs. The pay commission in Punjab is implemented after almost 7 years and last in the country. That too has deficiencies which invited state wide protests. The Dearness allowance was snatched years back and the new appointees are given only basic salary for years which an injustice to qualified and trained youth of state. Pay commission for teachers who are the torch bearers of society has yet not been notified. The state exchequer had been handled harshly leading to empty coffers.
The state politicians need to introspect before putting the onus of their own actions on central government. Despite all this, the politics slugfest is dominant and state is only a mute spectator to this full fledge political drama. Perhaps the tall promises remain shattered; party has tried its best to provide some sigh of relief through such entertainment in its last leg.
